| Dear Kak Dina |
Hi Kak Dinz!
I just got back from the Indonesian Book Study and got a lot of presents from Indonesia. I got a cute brown balloon-kinda-skirt from my mom. Again, whatever clothes she bought me seems to always fits perfectly on me even though I gain and lose weight randomly (well, it’s more like gain and gain actually). The instinct of a mother, huh? Haha..
I also got a bunch of cute little things from you, my dear kak Dinz! Yay!! Thanks a bunch kak Dinz! Love those pooh stuff and the Olive CD.. I also want to thank you for the letter, it’s so nice of you to spare the time to write me (in handwriting) in the middle of your hectic exhausting day.. I mean, 8 hours before flying to Aussie?! Wow..
By the way, have I ever told you that I’ve met Nihans’ older brother before? We actually saw a movie together at Plangi, it was me, mbak Eca, Nihans, his brother, and Jere. Well I’m glad you have a friend there, and I hope you will find other new friends there.. Umm, maybe even a single brother for me? Hahaha..
I’m listening to Olive right now. I think her voice is beautiful and I love the music arrangement. I don’t like, though, her strong accent in singing English songs. Of course, that is always the problem with Indonesian artists singing English songs. Seriously, I think Indonesian artists should always sings Indonesian songs and just stop trying to sound fluent in English songs, cause it just won’t work.
Anyways, I put your green letter on my pin board in my room. It’s nice to be able to read it again every once in a while, keep me reminded of my love ones.
I can’t wait to go back home kak Dinz, I think I’ve done my time here. I really think it is time for me to go back to my real home sweet home, take care of my family and fulfill my responsibilities there. Life in Indonesia is not as good as life in America, obviously. But no matter how miserable place Indonesia is, if that’s where my family is, I willingly will stay there. Plus, you’re probably going to be there too for the rest of your life right kak Dinz? Haha.. So if we’re in this together, then let it be..
It is 11 PM now; I better get started with writing my talk. I have the research talk for the theocratic school on Monday.
Take Care and write me updates okay kak Dinz!
Love You! |

| The Music Gadget |
I finally bought an iPod! 30 gigs, black. I’m sure some of you who really know me will wonder right away, how can I afford to buy an iPod?! Good question guys.
As you know I’m a famous babysitter now in Vegas haha.. My regular customer is Cody and Putra. I usually don’t get paid for babysitting Cody, which is fine because I consider her as a close relative, plus, she’s such a cute and calm baby. I really enjoy babysitting her. Putra, however, is a tough one. He’s a cry baby that’s for sure. He is the most demanding baby I ever known. Luckily, I always get paid for babysitting him. And that’s how I manage to save money to buy an iPod.
It took me a while to actually gather that amount of money, but it was worth it. I always wanted an iPod. I am a music-addict and iPod is the perfect gadget to fulfill my addiction.
(Well actually, I only manage to gather half of the money, the other half I kind of use my mom’s money haha.. ) Anyway, not an important issue. Let’s move on.
I was so excited about owning an iPod. That night when I bought it (at Costco because it has good returning policy and warranty), I spended hours setting the iPod in my computer until 3 am. I put thousands of songs, thousands of pictures (of course) and a lot of videos too.
My only disappointment about the iPod is how incomplete their default package is. It only came with a USB cable, a software CD, and an earphone. No charger?!! Apparently the USB cable is sort of a charger too, but cmon? Charge the iPod through the computer?!
Come to think of it, it’s kind of a rip off. If you own an iPod, one way or another, you are forced to buy those other gadgets such as the charger (obviously), radio transmitter, car charger, case, etc. Those stuff are relatively expensive you know, at least another hundred bucks will come out of your pocket. For me, it means more babysitting haha.. |

| Birth and Death |
Yesterday, July 8, 2006, Riley Dokos was born. He was 6 pounds and 12 ounces. A few hours after he was born, I visited him and his mother at the hospital. I held him for a while.. Staring at his little face, I was amazed by the fact that a few hours ago he was inside Mandie's belly..
Yesterday, July 8, 2006, my dear uncle Togi Pane died. He died from a heart attack, in a hospital near his house in Depok, Indonesia. His two children are still very young, teenagers. He was my mother's older brother, third child of my grandparents.
-----------
Six months ago, my mother just lost his other older brother, Tagor Pane, the second child of my grandparents. So, she lost two older brothers in 6 months period, how sad is that.. When uncle Tagor died, my mother was in a cruise to Mexico, and yesterday when uncle Togi died, she was in Jogjakarta for work..
If I think about it, so far her siblings died one by one from the oldest one, which means my mom would be the next.. YIKES!!! |

| Panas Gila!! |
Vegas weather has been quite unbearable lately; 40°C with 4% humidity! People were also saying that this year Vegas’ heat is 10°F more than last year. The tough part is the fact that my car’s AC has been broken since we bought the thing. The air comes out only from the bottom, on my feet. And oh, the windows are not tinted too. Sun and heat goes into the car from every direction I can think of. How funny, my car is a sunfire Pontiac and it does feel like a sunfire heat inside it!
Going out service has been difficult too with this kind of weather. It’s so hard to get out of the house when it’s nice and cool inside. I don’t know why I’m so spoiled like this here in Vegas. Jakarta’s heat is almost unbearable too; it always does (35°C with 80% humidity). Yet I managed to auxiliary pioneered at least two times a year every year there. I’ve been thinking to auxiliary pioneering this August, but I don’t know if I can handle that with the heat getting worse every week.
C’mon Dri you can do it!!!
This is actually one of the reasons I want to go back to Indonesia and live in that miserable third world country. I believe if I live a hard life there, I will be more prepared for the great tribulation. Here in The States, people are living such comfortable lives. I think it would be very hard for them when the great tribulation comes. For the people in third world countries such as Indonesia, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be so hard on them because they’re already living in tribulation haha!
Then again, this is only my own speculation. Feel free to disagree.
Anyhow, short-term goal: Auxiliary pioneering in August! Dukung gue yaaaa…!! |
